He holds a piano diploma and degrees in Harmony, Counterpoint, and Fugue and has been teaching music since 1990. In 1991, he founded the Erateio Conservatory, followed by the record label Subways Music in 2003. Over the years, he has overseen numerous recordings, concerts, and broader musical initiatives both in Greece and abroad. His record productions have been honored three times by the Hellenic Association of Theatre and Music Critics (2008, 2016, and 2024) at the Theatre and Music Awards, held at the Athens Concert Hall and the Olympia Municipal Music Theatre “Maria Callas.” Additionally, his work has received five more nominations from the same institution.
Sophocles Sapounas continues to shape Greece’s musical landscape through his artistic and educational endeavors, collaborating with students of all ages and prominent artists across generations of the Greek music scene.

Biography
Sophocles Sapounas, born in 1972 in Athens and hailing from Larissa, holds diplomas in Piano, Accordion, and Organ from the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe, as well as degrees in Harmony, Counterpoint, and Fugue.
Two individuals are credited with shaping his musical journey: composer and conductor Yiannis Ioannidis, who mentored him in piano and advanced music theory, and composer and guitarist Notis Mavroudis, who deepened his understanding of musical aesthetics and interpretation. Other influential teachers include Domna Konxidou, Kostas Ganosellis, Dinos Georgountzos, Haris Boutzikas, Giorgos Oikonomou, Spyros Berdelis, Giorgos Palias, and Kalliopi Skiada. He also studied computer music applications with Antonis Plessas.
At the age of 18, in 1990, he began his teaching career at the Attiko Conservatory in Holargos (now Maiandrio Conservatory), where he remained until 1993. His dedication to music education has spanned over 30 years.
In 1991, at just 19, he founded the Erateio Conservatory, which he continues to direct. In 2003, he expanded into music production by establishing Subways Music, an independent record label.
Sophocles has curated numerous recordings, online releases, and artistic projects, producing and organizing a wide variety of concerts across classical and contemporary genres, both in Greece and internationally.
His contributions to the recording industry have been recognized with two awards from the Union of Greek Theatre and Music Critics (in 2008 and 2016), as part of the Theatre and Music Awards held at the Athens Concert Hall. He has also received four additional nominations for this honor.
